Derwent Holdings, which is controlled by Kwik Save tycoon Albert Gubay, has submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of Edge Lane Retail Park in Liverpool.
The planning application is part of Derwent's wider package of proposals for the Edge Lane central area and is being submitted by independent town planning consultancy DPP on its behalf.
DPP was appointed by Derwent, the current of owner of Edge Lane Retail Park, in 2009 following a decade of disputes between Derwent and Liverpool City Council over the future of Edge Lane.
DPP said the application includes the following plans:
- £200m private sector investment into Liverpool's Eastern Gateway
- 890,767 sq ft of commercial development
- Replacement retail and leisure park with 47 retail units, four restaurants and three leisure units
- 1,795 parking spaces, plus cycle spaces
- Extensive investment in public realm and public art
- 1,500 additional jobs
Mark Aylward, an associate partner in DPP's Manchester office, added: "DPP have prepared several planning applications to take forward these exciting and complex proposals. This has involved managing a talented and diverse project team, and reconciling the competing interests of the key stakeholders from the resident, to neighbouring authorities, to a forum of local businesses, right through to National CABE. It is hoped that these proposals can go before Planning Committee in December 2010, with work beginning on the site in early 2011."
DPP worked closely with the economic development company Liverpool Vision as well as the council during the planning application stage.
AEW were appointed architects for the scheme, KFM as quantity surveyors, Roc Consulting for engineering and flood risk work, and Sanderson Associates for highways work.
