Plans in for nine-storey hotel in Trafford

Create Developments has submitted an application for a 197-bedroom hotel on land owned by Trafford Housing Trust off Barton Road in Stretford.

The hotel would be situated on a 70,300 sq ft site bounded to the west by the M60 and to the east by Barton Road.

The 12,600 sq ft property would cover one fifth of the overall site, with the remainder given over largely to a 127-space car park.

The AEW-designed development, which would be situated close to the existing Circle Court apartment building, will also feature a restaurant.

A new access point will be created on Barton Road.

A previous planning application, also submitted by the trust as landowner, for two five-storey apartment blocks containing 40 flats was approved in 2017.

Create is currently in talks to purchase the land from the trust in order to bring the hotel forward.

Iceni Projects is consultant on the scheme.

Blackpool-based Create Developments is also nearing completion of a 221-bedroom Hampton by Hilton hotel on Rochdale Road, Manchester, while work on another hotel in Blackpool completed in 2018.

Neither the developer nor consultant would disclose whether or not the Stretford hotel would also be a Hampton by Hilton.

As a key location for numerous motorist coming off the M60 Junction 9 slip roads for residents living in Urmston, shopping at the Trafford Centre, football gans visiting Old Trafford/ Manchester United and jobs in Trafford Park, surely there should be a requirement for more trees to be planted as a minimum? Any additional increase increase in traffic in the locality is going to have an adverse impact on Air Quality, especially in an area with Smart Motorway upgrades directly opposite the new hotel bedrooms???

The landscaping needs to be improved to prevent the area becoming a concrete jungle. Additional trees would also serve as a noise barrier to residents and people staying in the hotel as the current traffic volume is extremely high in this location with the proximity of numerous tourist attractions and Media City located not far from here!
