HOW Planning has submitted an application on behalf of private owners for the redevelopment of a 12-acre brownfield site in Prestwich, to deliver 160 homes and employment space.
The site in Mountheath Industrial Estate is made up of a number of single-storey, industrial and warehouse buildings, which HOW says are struggling to compete with more modern purpose-built accommodation in the region.
The plans propose the demolition of all existing structures, to make way for up to 160 homes and 32,000 sq ft of employment space, as well as improvements to the junction of George Street and Bury New Road.
The owner and developer is AM Ventures.
Matthew Robinson, senior planner at HOW Planning, said: “It is our client’s vision is to create a high quality and sustainable mixed-use development which will significantly add to and improve what is currently a struggling and underused site. The proposed scheme will help to bring a number of economic, social and environmental benefits to the local area and Bury as a whole.”
A spokesman from AM Ventures, said: “The new homes and employment space outlined in our proposal will add to the community in Prestwich helping to further support local businesses and services. We are looking forward to the decision and are hoping we will soon be able to progress with the scheme and move the development to the next stage.”
