Plans in for latest Knowledge Quarter project

The planning application has been submitted for a £35m proton cancer treatment centre due to be built in Knowledge Quarter Liverpool’s Paddington Village.

The facility will be one of four centres built by Proton Partners International in the UK, and forms one of several new buildings planned for the Knowledge Quarter’s £1bn 30-acre development in the university district.

Operational in 2018 and able to treat up to 700 patients a year, the new facility, to be called the Rutherford Cancer Centre North West, will be based yards from where RCP North, the new northern headquarters of the Royal College of Physicians, will also be built.

Proton Partners’ decision to locate a facility in Liverpool was announced at international property conference MIPIM last month.

JDDK Architects designed the building.

As well as the Proton Treatment Centre, KQ Liverpool will be home to the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, which last month launched a fundraising campaign to help facilitate its development. Other confirmed future occupiers include Liverpool International College.

Good to see private sector investment in health and research facilities in Liverpool! I’m really worried about Jeremy Corbyns stance the private sector companies will not be able to a play a role in health care in this country!
this will be damaging for business confidence, research and most of all patient care and should be resisted all cost
