Plans in for Blackburn nightclub conversion

An application has been submitted to turn the former Liquid & Envy nightclub on Blackburn’s St Peter Street into a restaurant and video game arcade.

The 11,000 sq ft site, which has been out of use on-and-off for several years, is hoped by its private owner to have a new lease of life as a restaurant with a cocktail and dessert bar on the ground floor, and arcade games on the first floor.

According to the application prepared by Urban Future Planning Consultancy,  the two-storey former club is housed in the Darwen Street Conservation Area. The proposed scheme is designed by Bolton-based M-Design.

The application states the reasons for a restaurant and games conversion: “The town centre of Blackburn has seen much regeneration and investment in recent years, with new forms of leisure developments including multiple new cafes and restaurants, modern cocktail bars as well as further leisure provision brought about including the Cathedral Quarter redevelopment.

“The application scheme would complement this growing offer and in proposing such an ambitious development, the Applicant is clearly expressing a sign of confidence in the local economy of Blackburn.”

Blackburn with Darwen Council has not yet set a date to consider the application.
