Plans for live music venue on show

Stadium Point, the company behind a planned new live music venue in Trafford, has launched the public consultation into the plans, which are due to be submitted this summer.

The company wants to transform a vacant industrial unit off Trafford Wharf Road turned into an indoor standing live music venue for up to 16,000 people. The venue could create up to 250 jobs.

The Power Station would cost £5m to create and would rank alongside London's 02 Arena, Stadium Point says.

The site is near to Manchester United FC and Lancashire County Cricket Club, and to the Salford Quays attractions The Lowry, The Imperial War Museum North and Media City.

David Vincent, of Stadium Point, said: "This is a very important stage for The Power Station's planning process.

"We are holding a thorough and pro-active consultation so that people can find out more about the scheme and have their say about the proposals.

"We would like as many people as possible from the surrounding area to attend the exhibition."

Residents are being informed of the exhibition by a leaflet drop and newspaper adverts. Information is also available at http://www.powerstationconsultation.co.uk/

The exhibition will be taking place at the following dates and venues:

  • Manchester United FC, Stretford Suite, South Stand, Thursday 17 June, 4-7pm, Saturday 19 June 2010, 2-5pm
  • The Lowry arts centre, The Hexagon Room, Salford Quays, Friday 18 June, 4-7pm, Saturday 19 June, 10am-1pm

Residents who live nearby have set up an Opposition group to this proposal. There is a public meeting which is to be held on Sunday 4th July at 10:30 at the Hexagon Room at the Lowry Theatre. The Police, Local MP’s and Local Businesses are also backing the opposition campaign to these plans.
