Planning permission secured for Darwen housing

A team led by the Manchester office of Peter Brett Associates has secured outline planning permission for up to 110 new homes at Cranberry Lane in Darwen, on behalf of Bloor Homes.

PBA said the site, owned by a number of private individuals, was safeguarded for future development for 20 years, but until now had not been released. Following representations submitted by PBA to the emerging new Local Plan Part 2, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council agreed that there is a need for the site to be released in order to address the acute shortage of housing across the Borough. The site was then included as a draft housing allocation. The new Local Plan Part 2 was found sound by a Planning Inspector and was formally adopted by full council earlier this month.

A commuted sum payment will be used to provide affordable housing in other parts of the borough, particularly the inner urban area.

Bernard Greep, equity director of Peter Brett’s Manchester office, said: “This scheme will make a meaningful contribution to housing needs at a site adjoining the urban boundary adjacent to existing residential uses.”

Will never go ahead. Local residents don’t want it. Local councillors don’t want it. Darwen doesn’t need it. Poor access, serious flooding and drainage issues, wildlife issues, no demand for that kind of housing, trying to build on the site of an old mine. Surprised you have been allowed to take it this far. It’s laughable.

5373, it may have had ‘outline consent’ but that doesn’t guarantee these houses will be built. Their is still a long way to go and the people of Darwen are certainly not giving up, especially when a company with a reputation as poor as Bloor Homes is involved.
