Planning granted for James Street hotel

Planning has been granted for a £7m hotel consisting of 155 bedrooms in James Street, Liverpool city centre.

Liverpool-based architects Falconer Chester Hall has designed the hotel which will operate under the Days Inn brand of the Wyndham Hotel Group.

This latest project will see the vacant seven-storey Moor House office building converted into a 3-star hotel, for developers Office Villages.

Falconer Chester Hall is currently working with Office Villages on a number of schemes around the country.

The architect practice has also recently had the £14m Hotel Indigo approved and worked on the £4m extension to the Hope Street Hotel, both in Liverpool.

Speaking about the new hotel in James Street, Sarah Harrison of Falconer Chester Hall, said: "The site sits within a conservation area and as part of the refurbishment we have created a new entrance area, adding transparency and enlivening it, along with a bar to serve the hotel."

The Wyndham Hotel Group has nearly 7,000 hotels representing more than 588,000 rooms in 66 countries.

This is really good news as Liverpool is bursting at the seams with visitors, everyone loves coming here and so they should, a hotel of this type will be an excellent addtion.

Despite the sneering, it’ll be difficult to get a hotel room in town when the thousands of Scandinavian and Irish visitors go to watch Liverpool’s last game (for a few years)in the Euro big cup. There’s a market for hotel beds in the city, that’s why people build them, operate them and work in them.

Good news. That site has been vacant far too long and would be a great location for visitors. Liverpool is on the up as a conference city, so hotels like this, near the new convention centre, can only be good.
