Place and How-Do on the move
Place North West and its sister online title, media news website How-Do, have acquired new offices in Manchester city centre.
The two firms are now based in Quay House in Quay Street, Spinningfields. Place was founded in 2007 and was acquired by How-Do in autumn 2009. How-Do was formerly based in West Didsbury, Manchester.
Paul Unger, editor and founder of Place North West, said: "After largely running Place from home in Aigburth, Liverpool for the past three years it is a refreshing change to work alongside the rest of the team and amid the buzz of Manchester city centre.
"Half of our readers are in Manchester and it is clearly the main economic engine of the region so it makes sense for us to be here to develop even stronger ties with the property and regeneration community."
Unger and Wirral-based reporter Michael Hunt will split their time between Merseyside and Manchester.
Mark Burgess, director of Spinningfields Management Company, said: "We welcome online industry portals Place North West and How-Do as they join Manchester news and lifestyle platform Manchester Confidential and marketing agency Journey9 in what is rapidly becoming a digital hub in Spinningfields.
"The offices in Quay House are home to a digital community who are leading the way in the region," he added.
The new address is Quay House, Quay Street, Manchester, M3 3JE and the new main switchboard number is 0161 637 2977.
Shame you only see manchester as a power house.

What a load of s****. Unger’s true colours revealed. Let’s see what a great powerhouse Manc is with the government dismantling all the regional structures that have alone sustained its economy at the expense of Liverpool during the new labour years.

Place has never styled itself as a "Merseyside" publication. If their parent company want them to be based in Manchester, it is still in one of the two main cities the title is supposed to centre on.

Fair point, but I always felt their liverpool base helped provide balance in the reporting. I hope the jornalists do not get seduced by the glitzy pr girls, cocained fuelled developers and recently sober agents into promoting manchester over and above the rest of the North West.

Well, as anonymous says, Place was sold to that "Eeh bah Goom", or whatever it is website and they have the right to shift them to whereever they want. Naturally because Trouble a’t’ Mill.com, or whatever the feck it is. Unger should spare us the anti-Liverpool, Manchester-hyping bullcrap though. He’s going to Manchester because his bosses ordered it. Or he really so credulous that he believe the hype about Manchester. Get some self respect then if so.

Chillax Place lovers. Reading these past few comments doesn’t ‘alf make me chuckle. I don’t think it is just the mancs and scousers within Place’s heart. I’ve been reading about Chester, Warrington, Barrow, Morecambe, and other ‘places’ in the one big happy North West family on this site and long may it continue wherever they’re based!

A shame but possibly a sign of things to come, considering the scale of Liverpool’s reliance on the public sector for providing direct employment, investment and stimulating the still dreadfully low levels of enterprise. With the on going retrenchment of the public sector, the progress the government have made (much at the expense of Manchester and the wider North West it must be said) in pulling Liverpool’s economy back from the brink could reduce opportunities for many firms in Merseyside. An entirely understandable and sensible decision by Place.

Seems the very fact so much has been written there’s not too much going on in the market. Why get so irate about something when surely the missed point is we should be celebrating Place NW as a success story in these hard times…. as for Mr Liver the only cocaine fulled developers I’ve ever experience have indeed been from your city..if you follow the rantings I’ve witnessed in the press from some of your property people.. doth he protest too much????
