Peel Ports hires operations manager from Felixstowe
Peel Ports today announced the appointment of a new head of port operations at the Port of Liverpool.
David Huck joins from Hutchison Ports Felixstowe where he was senior manager for container terminal operations.
He will lead operational performance at Peel Port's Mersey Port facilities and take responsibility for the 16,000 vessel movements it handles each year.
Huck said: "It is evident from the wide portfolio of customers and the increasing demand for port-centric solutions within the UK, that having that capability to deliver solutions so close to major consumer conurbations and distribution centres represents a largely untapped opportunity for ports.
"Industry within the UK is starting to shift to more centrally-located terminals, largely driven from the retail and processing sectors who today require more value-added logistics and supply chain solutions. The combination of existing facilities, when aligned with the planned deep water container river terminal and the development of port-centric storage and distribution hubs along the 44-mile stretch of the Manchester Ship Canal, is exactly the gap in the marketplace that made the decision to join the group unquestionable."

"This year will see the turnkey delivery of a £1.6m investment in terminal operating systems including the full integration of yard carrier global positioning systems and some of the latest container operating platforms within our Royal Seaforth container terminal operation.
