Peel Media ‘delighted’ by BBC announcement

The developer of Media City UK has responded to the BBC's recent announcements about the move of BBC Breakfast and the re-location of an extra 113 BBC employees from London to Salford Quays.

Sinead Greenaway, CEO at Peel Media, said: "We at Peel Media are delighted that BBC Breakfast will be joining us here at Media City UK. They bring informative news and features to millions of viewers across the UK each weekday morning and we are pleased that this established network show will broadcast live from Salford Quays."

Peel Media added that the news has been heightened by the announcement that 118 roles from marketing, communications audiences and future media and technology will be moving to Media City.

Greenway added: "An additional two comedy shows will be commissioned from Media City UK by 2012/13. This news is testimony to the BBC's commitment to make their new home here at Media City UK a success."

Developed and managed by Peel Media, a division of the Peel Group, Media City UK will be home to around 5,000 workers, students, residents and visitors when the first phase is complete

The first phase of Media City UK, which is scheduled to be completed in 2011, includes approximately 80,000 sq ft for retail and leisure use, and 700,000 sq ft of office space.

The BBC will move around 2,500 staff to Media City UK from 2011 and The University of Salford have committed to a new higher education centre at Media City UK, which will accommodate up to 1,500 students and staff.
