Peaks & Plains launches £3m empty homes programme

Macclesfield-based Peaks & Plains Housing Trust has joined forces with High Peak Council to launch a £3m project to tackle homes that have been empty for more than six months in Buxton.

The partnership will see Peaks & Plains committing £2m with the remainder funded by High Peak Council from Section 106 contributions. Peaks & Plains was appointed after a European Union tendering exercise.

Nigel Bennett, assistant director of partnerships at Peaks & Plains, said: "This project represents a prime opportunity to tackle the issue of empty properties in Buxton while providing high quality, affordable homes for people in the area.

"We welcome the opportunity to partner with High Peak Borough Council and are committed to working together to create vibrant and sustainable communities."

Vendors in the area with properties that have remained unoccupied for more than six months are invited to contact Peaks & Plains by contacting 0800 012 1311.

Peaks & Plains Housing Trust was established in July 2006, following the transfer of nearly 5,000 homes from Macclesfield Council.
