Peaks & Plains completes rural housing scheme

Macclesfield-based Peaks & Plains Housing Trust has handed over keys to a small housing development in the east Cheshire village of Lower Withington to local people.

Designed by architects, Bowker Sadler, and built by Fawley Construction, the Thorntree Row development consists of four houses and two bungalows on land next to six existing trust properties.

Rooms can be adapted to suit growing families or the specific needs of residents, with simple architectural modifications. In line with Peaks & Plains' policy, all the houses were let to Lower Withington residents, with the exception of one property, which has been let to a resident from the next parish. Community facilities include a shared garden area planted with wildflowers.

Nigel Bennett, assistant director of partnerships at Peaks & plains, said: "We worked very closely with local people to design a scheme that provided much-needed housing in the area. Rural communities, like Lower Withington, need developments like this one so that local people can live in affordable housing without having to leave the area."
