Patrick Parsons snaps up BCM

Manchester-based building design company BCM has been acquired by multi-disciplinary consulting engineering firm Patrick Parsons.

BCM, established in 2002, specialises in sustainability and low cost, low carbon building solutions. As part of the Parsons group, the office’s services will be extended to include geoenvironmental, structural and civil engineering design.

Peter Stienlet, managing director of Patrick Parsons, told Place North West: “It’s progressing really well. At the time of our management buyout in 2007, Patrick Parsons had eight staff, and we’re now at 211, so we hold onto the values of a small firm, but with a lot more substance.

“We don’t lose staff and we don’t lose clients – I predict we’ll double the size of the BCM office within two years.”

No decision has yet been taken on whether the business will undergo a name change. The four staff from Parsons’ existing Manchester office have transferred to BCM’s base, making the office 20-strong. Stienlet said the business is looking for a new location close to its current Central Street address.

Originally established in 1964, Patrick Parsons has offices in London, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Birmingham, Glasgow, Huddersfield, Chester, Guildford, Sydney and Dubai, and works with clients and industries across the globe.

Brian Morris, managing director and founder of BCM, said: “After 15 successful years I am delighted to announce this fantastic opportunity for BCM.

“United by a common business culture, our alliance with Patrick Parsons will enhance our offer and enable future growth and performance, extending our coverage nationally and internationally.”

Stienlet added: “The move will allow us to not only extend our reach in the North West but also strengthen the building services design service that we provide to our clients across the country.”
