Paddock Johnson rebrands and expands team

The Wirral-based architecture firm Paddock Johnson has hired three members of staff and promoted associate Maria Killick to associate director, as part of a growth strategy following a change in company leadership.

Ownership of the practice transferred to directors Victoria Alderton and Simon Halliwell last October when co-founders Michael Paddock, Eric Johnson and Phil Emslie retired.

Since then, the company has embarked on a fresh chapter of growth, which has seen it hire three junior members of staff in the past few weeks, including  Oliver Moran as Part II architectural assistant following his graduation with a masters degree from Liverpool John Moores University; Tom Jordan as an apprentice, and Georgia Fenton as office administrator.

Killick was promoted to associate director, while the firm rebranded to Paddock Johnson, from Paddock Johnson Partnership. The firm’s logo has also undergone a redesign led by USP Creative in Liverpool.

Paddock Johnson, which was established in 1976, operates from a former schoolhouse in Port Sunlight, Wirral. Over the past year, it has grown its pipeline of future work, with a focus on “design-conscious” projects that positively shape the environment, the company said.

It is working on several schemes, including to rethink retirement housing, conservation efforts, and affordable housing.

Director Halliwell said: “It’s been a challenging first year [of new ownership] with Covid-19 restrictions and initial worries about how this might impact our workflow and ability to run the business with a remote team, but our team have been outstanding and we are delighted to welcome [the new starters] and announce Maria’s promotion.”

Alderton added: “Despite the challenges, the last year has also been filled with positives. In addition to welcoming our 3 new starters, and celebrating Maria’s promotion, we have had 156 new enquiries, celebrated awards for our extra care and housing project at Westhead Avenue and published thought leadership articles on topics we feel passionately about.

“We are proud to reveal a new look for Paddock Johnson that we feel better reflects our purpose, vision and values to inspire both our team and clients working with us.”
