Oxton properties beat auction targets

Smith & Sons said several lots were sold for well in excess of the asking price at its latest auction in Wirral.

Held at the Village Hotel in Bromborough, Wirral, 14 out of 21 lots offered were sold. A large Victorian semi-detached house on Shrewsbury Road in Oxton with scope to develop into flats or re-convert into a large family home had a guide price of £180,000 and sold for £233,000.

A shop and self contained flat in Bebington went for £90,000, some £40,000 above the guide price whilst a former Post Office with two floors above on Wellington Road in Oxton was secured with £146,500 from an original guide price of £125,000.

A number of terraced properties across the Borough, in need of refurbishment, also enjoyed significant interest, largely from developers and builders.

Chris Johnson, partner at Smith & Sons, said: "Whilst the room was not as busy as recent sales, there was serious bidding from a broad range of purchasers and we are pleased with the result which raised in excess of £1m."

Smith & Sons' next auction is to be held on 30 June. Properties in need of refurbishment and repair always attract a high level of interest and entries are now being sought for this next sale with a closing date of 26 May.
