Ollier Smurthwaite flats in Altrincham approved

Trafford Council has given planning consent to proposals for 40 high-end apartments and townhouses in Altrincham, to be developed by Real Estate Investment Partnerships.

Alexandra House, the £18m scheme designed by Ollier Smurthwaite Architects, will be on the corner of Ashley Road and St John’s Road, on the site of a derelict hostel.

Flat sizes range from 430 sq ft townhouses to a 1,289 sq ft three-bedroom duplexes. There will also be parking for 86 cars.

Construction is due to commence in July 2016.

Real Estate Investment Partnerships bought the building from Great Places Housing Group in May 2015.

Stephen Slater, chief executive officer of Real Estate Investment Partnerships, said: “We’re thrilled to have passed the planning stages of this development and are moving ahead with turning this public eyesore into a residential development worthy of its premium location.

“Getting on site and turning this corner of Bowdon around is our next priority. We’re committed to ensuring that the building complements the local environment whilst putting its own stamp on the area, and have been working with Trafford Council for over a year to achieve this.”

Tom Flanagan of Paul Butler Associates advised on planning and heritage matters, with Irwin Mitchell Solicitors representing Real Estate Investment Partnerships.
