Ocon adds university knowledge to BD

Student halls specialist contractor Ocon Construction has appointed Sheffield University estates director, Neil Cameron, to the new post of business development executive, bringing client-side expertise to its growth plans.

Cameron is a registered architect and qualified BREEAM assessor and has worked on design management, project management and estates management.

As well as his time at Sheffield University, Cameron spent ten years as head of estates and assistant director of facilities at Sheffield Hallam University. He also worked in project management at the Ministry of Defence and the Inland Revenue.

Cameron said: "I have spent my entire career in construction and property-related roles but have never worked for a contractor before so this will be a new challenge for me. Ocon has an excellent reputation in the university sector and my remit includes helping to build on this whilst also helping the company to diversify into other sectors."

Manchester-based Ocon's sales fell from £98m in 2006 to £56m in 2010 and the group is now aiming to reverse the trend and reach £100m within four years.
