Oakmere’s Lancaster homes move forward after delay

The housebuilder is one step closer to being given the green light for a 70-home scheme at Royal Albert Farm off Pathfinders Drive, three years after Homes England submitted outline proposals for the site but the decision making process was delayed.

Lancaster City Council stalled a decision on the outline plans while it adopted a revised set of planning policies over the past few years.

However, the council’s planning committee last week ruled that government agency Homes England’s original outline application complies with the updated policies and granted it planning consent. This mean the council is now at liberty to determine Oakmere Homes’ subsequent full application for the site.

Last December, the housebuilder submitted a full application for 72 homes on the eight-acre site south-west of Lancaster city centre. The application proposed the refurbishment of the grade two-listed Derby Home to create 10 affordable one- and two-bedroom apartments.

Derby Home was built in 1913 and used as a mental health ward for the nearby Royal Albert Hospital.

The proposed houses will be a mix of three-, four- and five-bedroom properties.

Savills is the planning consultant for the development and PDP Associates is the landscape architect. Architect Broadway Malyan drew up the wider masterplan for the site. The council has yet to set a date for when it will determine Oakview’s application.
