NPL sets out Thornton town centre vision

HOW Planning and NPL Estates have submitted an outline planning application for a mix of retail and residential in Thornton, Cleveleys.

The plans are aimed at meeting the Fleetwood and Thornton Area Action Plan, which was approved earlier this year. It highlighted the need for new local and community facilities for the Burn Naze area where NPL wishes to develop.

The project would be anchored by a food store, with 15 smaller units housing retail, financial and professional services, leisure and residential. It will also incorporate a community centre, associated car parking and a new public square.

Jon Suckley, principal at HOW Planning, said: "Our client's vision is to create a high quality, local centre, which will attract new businesses to Burn Naze opening up a mix of employment opportunities for the local population.

"We've submitted several applications to Wyre Borough Council, all of which are part of a much bigger plan for Thornton. This part of Lancashire has a very bright future, as there is a lot of work taking place to regenerate the area and we are looking forward to seeing the plans evolve."

The application for the new local centre in Burn Naze has been submitted in outline with all matters reserved except for access layout.
