Novotel named at Paddington Village
Liverpool City Council has confirmed the selection of Accor Hotels for a joint Novotel hotel and aparthotel at the £1bn Paddington Village scheme in the city’s Knowledge Quarter.
Subject to planning approval it is expected that construction, to be undertaken by Morgan Sindall, will begin in summer 2019 and completed in 2021.
Located opposite the Royal Liverpool Hospital, the £35m development will be an 18-storey building designed by Ryder Architecture. The project breaks down as a 160-bedroom Novotel hotel and 60-bedroom “upscale” aparthotel, and will be operated by Legacy Hotels & Resorts.
Legacy, acting through its subsidiary Branded Hotel Management, delivered and now manages the Pullman Liverpool, also on a franchisee agreement with Accor.
The professional team also includes Curtins as structural engineer and Steven Hunt Associates on M&E.
Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson, said: “This will be a landmark venue for KQ Liverpool and we need a quality brand and operator to deliver the hotel.
“I’m thrilled at how many Liverpool businesses are involved in its design and construction – this will truly be an iconic landmark for the city, by the city and echoes everything we are aiming to achieve in Paddington Village.”
Three schemes are currently under way in Paddington Village: the Royal College of Physicians’ The Spine, the Rutherford Cancer Centre North West, and a new live-learn centre by Kaplan for Liverpool International College. A fourth, a diagnostics centre linked to the Rutherford facility, has now secured planning consent.
Colin Sinclair, chief executive of KQ Liverpool, said: “When Accor showed us their stylish new Novotel at Canary Wharf in London, we knew it was the iconic presence we needed.”

Will looks great sat next to the Spine, more of this!
Very impressive
Another excellent addition to KQ Liverpool, very impressive!
Grim
Great news for KQ at the top of the hill. Can’t wait for Lime Square downtown.
Not grim, but nice!
Ultra modern and stylish fitting for Liverpool
Cut and Paste of the Melia in First Street, Manchester?
Looks like an Ian Simpson design.
Regretful
Wrong size, wrong scale, lack of humanising detail, cliched ‘bit missing’, bizarre bilious cladding. 3/10.
