Northern to start industrial scheme in autumn

Northern Trust is seeking contractors to build 21 industrial units at Gerard's Bridge in St Helens.

The project has European Regional Development Fund support and will total 30,700 sq ft when completed.

The contract will involve building three blocks plus associated yards, car parking spaces, landscaping and alterations to the existing highway.

The appointed firm will also be required to stabilise shallow coal workings and mineshafts and install a grout barrier to prevent contaminated water leaching into an adjoining brook. The development area is five acres.

A short-list of firms will be invited to provide proposals in September with the work starting in October. The deadline for expressions of interest is Friday 12 August.
