Nobles picks up £7m GP centre build after Felton collapse

Liverpool-based contractor Nobles Construction has been selected to kick-start work on a new medical centre for LSP Developments in Birkenhead.

The centre was partially completed when the original contractor, Wirral-based Felton Construction, went into administration in May.

The £7m Laird Street Medical Centre was scheduled to open in October 2009 but is now expected to be complete in early 2010.

Once completed the new facility will accommodate eight GPs from the nearby Miriam and Cavendish Medical Centres, replacing their existing buildings, which are cramped, outdated and no longer fit for purpose. Both practices will retain their own identities within the new building. There will also be an Assura well-being centre, an on-site pharmacy and community services by NHS Wirral.

Peter Linford, director at Nobles Construction, said: "All parties have been able to act very quickly to salvage the scheme and ensure there is minimum delay to operations.

"This is a perfect scheme for us. We have a proven track record of delivering projects of this kind against client objectives, on time and within budget."
