No1 Old Trafford tops out

Developer Cole Waterhouse’s £72m residential scheme opposite the Wharfside Metrolink stop at Salford Quays has reached its highest point ahead of completion next spring.

The 214,000 sq ft development, split between two towers of 18 and 15 storeys, was designed by Jon Matthews Architects.

Domis Construction, which took over from collapsed contractor Forrest Construction last year, is building the scheme and Loft Interiors is lined up to complete the fit-out.

A total of 139 apartments will have one bedroom each while 211 flats will provide two bedrooms. Four of the apartments will have three bedrooms.

Around 70% of the 354 units have already been sold and a 15% provision has been reserved for first-time buyers under the Government’s Help to Buy scheme.

The blocks are connected at ground level by a central reception area, which will house residential amenities including a cinema room and business lounge.

Damian Flood, chief executive of Cole Waterhouse, said: “Domis has done a superb job adhering to the development programme while ensuring Covid-safe working conditions.

“We have continued to see a high level of interest, in particular from international investors, but as we move towards completion next year we are starting to achieve more direct sales to local owner occupiers.”

The development includes £1m of public realm at the perimeter of the site around the Skyhooks sculpture.

Last February, Cole Waterhouse secured a £55m development finance facility from Fortwell Capital.
