NMP hands £20m to Cumbria regeneration projects

Nuclear Management Partners, the consortium appointed to run the decommissioning of Sellafield, has awarded £20m over five years to regeneration projects in Cumbria's Energy Coast masterplan.

NMP is made up of URS Washington Division, Amec and Areva. It agreed a £22bn contract with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority to run Sellafield sites, including Capenhurst in Cheshire and Risley near Warrington in July last year.

The £20m gift will be administered by the newly created West Cumbria Vision Board for Copeland and Allerdale.

Around 30 regeneration projects will benefit, ranging from nuclear training and research facilities to health services, transport links, leisure, culture and sporting facilities.

The Energy Coast masterplan is expected to create around 16,000 jobs and boost the economy by £800m annually within 20 years.
