NHS Trust tenders for Leighton hospital power plant

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking construction companies to build a new combined heat and power plant at Leighton Hospital in Crewe.

Within its tender document, the trust said it wishes to enter into a "discounted electricity purchase agreement", whereby a supplier shall deliver and install free of charge a combined heat and power unit in order to generate electricity and heat for the hospital building.

The trust envisaged that the agreement will be for the initial period of 10 years with the trust holding the option to extend the arrangements for a further five years.

The power plant will replace the hospital's existing combined heat and power unit, which are also known as cogeneration plants and act as a form of energy recycling.

Further information regarding the specification requirements will be provided at the formal tender stage of the project.

Deadline for submitting tenders is 10am on 19 October.
