NHS provider to open at Burnley’s Briercliffe

Diaverum Facilities Management has taken a 13,500 sq ft unit at the Lancashire shopping centre where it will operate a dialysis treatment centre.

The company is one of the largest independent dialysis providers in the UK, caring for more than 2,000 patients through its network of renal centres. In total, the company operates more than 700 clinics internationally.

Briercliffe Shopping Centre, located north of Burnley town centre near the hospital, is Diaverum’s latest site and is due to open later this year. The clinic is to be overseen by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The retail park is owned by Waypoint Asset Management and is let to occupiers including bookmakers Coral and William Hill, as well as supermarket chain Iceland.

The Diaverum unit was previously occupied by SPE Furnishings, which relocated to Adlington House in 2019.

Trevor Dawson Chartered Surveyors acted jointly with Mason & Partners on behalf of Waypoint Asset Management, and Hempton Franks acted for Diaverum.

John Hempton, director at Hempton Franks, said: “The new clinic in Burnley is an interesting illustration of how diversification can assist in regeneration as well as providing great benefits to patients and health care.”

Michael Cavannagh, director at Trevor Dawson Surveyors, said: “This is a great letting for the centre and the medical use for the unit diversifies the type of occupiers within the shopping centre in what is a difficult retail market.”

A further three units at Briercliffe totalling 3,000 sq ft were recently let to an unnamed government department.
