Next phase of Hattersley district centre on site

Contractor Morgan Sindall has started on site with a £3.8m community centre in Hattersley, Tameside.

The four-storey centre for Tameside Council and Peak Valley Housing Association will include a public library, youth facilities, community hall, offices for the housing association and the community forum association and a satellite office for police. An under-croft car park will provide spaces for 25 vehicles. Morgan Sindall is already on site with a 94,300 sq ft Tesco Metro store.

Ryan Jones, site manager for Morgan Sindall, says: "The district centre is eagerly anticipated in Hattersley as it will really enhance local services and provide a vibrant focal point for the community.

"Although this building doesn't have a particularly large footprint, it involves a variety of construction techniques including brickwork, zinc cladding, an under-croft structure for the car park and a glazed footbridge on the first floor. It's quite a challenging build."

Completion is scheduled for August.
