New recruits at Shoosmiths

Law firm Shoosmiths has recruited two partners to its planning team, both from rival Weightmans.

Lisa Tye and Kathryn Jump joined as partners at the national law firm's Manchester office, where they will be working alongside associate Melanie Grimshaw and solicitor Marcus Woody.

Their arrival brings the number of Shoosmiths specialist planning lawyers to 11.

Kirsten Hewson, national head of planning, said: "Lisa and Kathryn will help manage the Manchester planning operation, dealing with strategic national projects, where senior level input is essential, particularly concerning compulsory purchase orders."

Tye and Jump, who have worked together for many years, specialise in regeneration and mixed-use schemes, acting for major supermarkets, developers, housebuilders, utility companies, and local authorities. Both have experience in the renewable energy sector.

Shoosmiths national planning team has seen increased work in the past year due to more strategic land schemes for residential developments over 2,000 units, more public inquiry work due to increased intervention in residential development by the Secretary of State, and through helping developers 'unlock' difficult sites which can then be parceled-up with the benefit of planning permission and sold to housebuilders.

Planning team clients include IKEA, Grainger Plc, English Heritage, and the ZOG Group; and it recently acted for property investor and developer Allied London when it teamed-up with Manchester City Council to buy the former Granada TV studio site.
