New Look signs at Rochdale Riverside
The fashion retailer has signed for a 10,300 sq ft unit at the town centre development, signing a 10-year lease.
The New Look letting takes the 200,000 sq ft Rochdale Riverside up to 92% occupied, according to the council.
New Look, which has more than 400 stores nationwide, joins fellow retailers H&M, River Island and Next, among others.
Restaurant chain Nandos is also expected to be open in time for Christmas after joining Crust Pizza, Loaded Burgers and Heavenly Desserts, which are already in operation at the £80m development.
Cllr John Blundell, cabinet member for economy and communications at Rochdale Council, said: “Rochdale Riverside opened in April 2020 and New Look is the fifth new tenant to sign a lease since the pandemic started.
“That’s nothing short of remarkable in the current climate and highlights the feel-good factor that there is in the town.”
New Look exited Rochdale last year, having operated a store within the neighbouring Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre.
Delivered in a joint venture between Genr8 and Kajima in partnership with Rochdale Council, Rochdale Riverside is a 200,000 sq ft retail and leisure development in the heart of Rochdale town centre which also includes a 520-space multi-storey car park.
Enabling works are underway for Rochdale Riverside phase two, known as Upperbanks, which will comprise 242 apartments and a 146-bed Hampton by Hilton hotel.
So New Look have basically moved from the Wheatsheaf to the new bit. The Wheatsheaf closed.
This isn’t a success story. They just moved people. It’s such a poorly designed and planned shopping area. And here we are paying council tax to these incompetents.
