New HQ proposed for Stockport Homes

Plans to replace a car showroom and derelict industrial premises in Stockport town centre with a head office for Stockport Homes have been submitted to the council for approval.

The 55,000 sq ft four-storey building in Edward Street is proposed by property investor Quorum Estates, which worked with Stockport Council on the pre-submission plans.

The current tenant in the car showroom, HR Owen, is due to relocate to modern premises later this year, leaving the whole site vacant.

Stockport Homes acts as a registered provider and development partner for Stockport Council.

Quorum acquired the site in 2003.

Mark Hudson, director of technical and commercial services at Stockport Homes, said: "The focus of this development is to bring all the Stockport Homes services together under one roof whilst also remaining accessible to customers in their homes, with new more efficient mobile ways of working."

AEW Architects designed the building. NJL Consulting provided planning advice. The application is due to be determined in the autumn.
