New entrance opens at Downing’s The Capital

Downing has unveiled its £2m new look entrance to its refurbished The Capital, claimed to be Liverpool's largest office building.

The new reception is the latest phase of Downing's £10m Capital refurbishment project to be completed.

The entrance to the 390,000 sq ft The Capital – in which Liverpool Vision has recently taken 12,000 sq ft – was designed by architects KKA.

The entrance is framed by a steel archway, while inside the original balcony was completely removed to reveal four refurbished escalators creating a crossed pattern. A 40ft high art installation has also been installed behind the escalators.

John Clegg, head of property management at Downing, said: "The recent letting success has confirmed The Capital as one of the most important business addresses in the city. We have created a reception that embodies this status and the building's transformation into a vibrant, cosmopolitan business centre."

Downing was granted planning permission to add a further 18,000 sq ft of office space to the building via glazed extensions to the waterfront facing eighth and ninth floors.
