New chairman for Duchy of Lancaster

Mark Hudson has been appointed to replace Lord Shuttleworth as chairman of the council of the Duchy of Lancaster.

Lord Shuttleworth took up the post of chairman in January 2006 and will retire at the end of 2014. Hudson, who joined the Duchy Council is June 2006, will take over on 1 January 2015.

Hudson is a former president of the Country Land & Business Association and a former chairman of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust. He is currently chairman of NWF Group.

The holdings of the Duchy of Lancaster cover 13,000 acres across Lancashire and Cheshire, in addition to industrial and office holdings in Blackburn and Manchester, and the patch of foreshore between the mid-point of the River Mersey and Barrow-in-Furness.

Lord Shuttleworth said: "It has been a privilege to serve 16 years on the Council and nine as Chairman. I would like to thank everyone for their dedication and hard work over the period of my tenure and I wish Mark all the very best for the future."
