New £40m West Cumbria bypass completed

A dual carriageway aimed at cutting congestion in villages in West Cumbria was officially opened today by the Highways Agency.

The investment will deliver a new three mile dual carriageway between Parton and Lillyhall, providing a significant improvement on the old, single carriageway road which had many tight bends.

Bypassing Distington, Common End and Howgate it will provide relief for local residents by removing 17,000 vehicles per day that used to travel through the villages.
