Wirral Council has granted outline planning application for phase two of Neptune Developments' plans for New Brighton.
The £42m proposals are in addition to the work already underway with the redevelopment of the Floral Pavilion Theatre and the new Town Square with cafes and 37 apartments.
The second phase includes a hotel and a year-round outdoor spa with the Marine Lake remaining on its existing site and no further residential elements. The proposals address all the issues raised by the Secretary of State following the Planning Inquiry last year and full consultation has been carried out with all statutory bodies and local groups.

We look forward to submitting the necessary detailed planning applications in the next few months and moving towards a start on site with the second phase of our vision for a new New Brighton.

The proposals include:
- Dredging the Marine Lake and providing a new pontoon and sailing school facilities
- Refurbishing the Victorian shelters
- Pedestrian plaza including a performance area with café bars west of the Marine Lake
- New foodstore operated by Morrison's with its size reduced from the original plan for 85,000 sq ft to 64,000 sq ft
- Leisure and commercial space above the foodstore
- Six-screen, 1,100 seater cinema
- 60-bed budget hotel
- New health club
- Lido with a large hot water spa equivalent in size to a standard 25m pool size
- New model boating lake, exactly the same size as the existing facility with its own dedicated parking
