Mulbury plans affordable homes for Warrington

A scheme to build 78 affordable homes on the site of a former scrap yard in Warrington has been submitted by Mulbury Homes.

The housing developer wants to build the homes on the brownfield site of former George Howard Scrap Yard, Folly Lane.

If approved, 45 properties consisting of semi-detached mews style homes, with a mix of two and three bedroom, and 33 one and two bedroom apartments will feature on the site.

A derelict building currently on the land will be demolished to make way for the new homes, which will be made available for affordable rent and shared ownership.

The homes will be compliant with Housing Quality Indicators and are designed to meet the government's Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3.

Planning permission was previously granted for an apartment scheme on the site, which was renewed in February 2011.

Greg Mulligan, director at Mulbury Homes, said: "This development will bring a neglected brownfield site back into use, and transform what is currently an eyesore for those living near to Folly Lane.

"These houses will also provide some much needed affordable homes in an area where demand is high, and are in-keeping with Warrington Council's regeneration plans for the site."

The plans are currently out to consultation, and are expected before the council's planning committee at the end of February.

If given the green light, work is expected to start in March and be completed by September 2014.
