MPact-Thales starts recruitment drive for 900 Metrolink jobs

MPact-Thales, the consortium appointed to design, build and maintain the Metrolink extensions to Rochdale/Oldham, Droylsden and Chorlton, has started advertising for the construction workers it needs to carry out the contract.

Individuals and firms with experience in civil engineering, track systems, operating systems design, maintenance and physical construction are invited to contact the consortium.

The team will be made up of 200 white collar and 700 blue collar workers and will include directly employed staff and subcontractors. A conference for subcontractors held in October attracted 70 firms.

The three-year build contract is worth £360m to MPact-Thales, with roughly £200m of that expected to go to subcontractors.

Work is due to start on the first of the three new lines, into Chorlton, South Manchester in March 2009. The last of the three will open in spring 2012.

MPact-Thales is made up of Laing O'Rourke, Grant Rail and Thales.
