Motel One opens second Manchester hotel

The German operator has opened on Cross Street with a hotel named Motel One Manchester-Royal Exchange, the group’s second in the city following Piccadilly, which opened in 2015.

The hotel has 302 rooms and occupies 11-15 Cross Street. The project involved the demolition of the 37,000 sq ft Commercial Buildings, although the façade has been retained.

Style Matters, the Knutsford-based bespoke furniture maker, is among the suppliers on a fit-out that heavily references Manchester’s cotton heritage.

Motel One is already taking plans forward for its third Manchester site, having announced a deal in November 2016 for a 328-room hotel at Property Alliance Group’s project at the site of Peterloo House, on Dickinson Street. Russells Construction was the contractor on both the Cross Street and Piccadilly hotels.

Motel One Cross St ReceptionHeadquartered in Munich, Motel One now operates 56 hotels across Europe, although it is only present in Manchester, London and Edinburgh within the UK. Billing itself as a budget design hotel group, it turned over €357m in 2016.
