Morgan Sindall finishes £27m of schools

Morgan Sindall has handed over the latest batch of four schools rebuilt under the Education Funding Agency’s Priority School Building Programme for the North West.

The programme aims to provide new, modern facilities to the schools in most urgent need of repair and replacement.

The four completed schools are Blacon High and Dee Point Primary in Chester, Plymouth Grove Primary in Manchester, and Bedford Drive Primary in Wirral.

The new schools form part of the PSBP North West batch, a total of 12 schools in Blackpool, Chester, Wigan, Manchester, Stockport and Merseyside, awarded to a Morgan Sindall Investments-Equitix consortium in August 2014.

Through the national PSBP programme, 261 schools will be rebuilt or have their condition needs met by the EFA, the first of which was completed in 2014. All schools within the programme will be delivered by the end of 2018.

Across the programme, each new school will be built on land within the existing school boundary allowing the school to remain operational during construction of the new buildings. Once complete, the school will move into the new teaching facilities while the old buildings are demolished and external landscaping works are completed.

Designers have used level two Building Information Modelling practices to design the schools. This allows the different disciplines involved in design and construction, to share information leading to greater efficiencies.

This latest handover takes the total number of successfully delivered PSBP schools in the North West Batch to seven with Bridge Hall Primary School in Stockport, JH Godwin Primary School in Chester and Halebank Primary School in Halton all being handed over earlier this year.
