Mondiale buys Stockport music studios

Media entrepreneur Damian Walsh has acquired historic music recording site Strawberry Studios in Stockport from the Bromley family for an undisclosed sum.

Walsh, advised by law firm Gorvins, completed the purchase of through his Mondiale Publishing business. The publishing house and media company produces business-to-business magazines and acquired local radio station Imagine FM in 2009.

Walsh said he was delighted to be buying one of Stockport's best known buildings.

The 13,600 sq ft studios on Waterloo Road were the first of their kind to be built outside London when they were created in 1967. Artists including 10cc, Paul McCartney, Joy Division, The Smiths and The Stone Roses recorded some of their most famous music at the studios.

In the early 1990s the studios were converted into offices and in 2007 awarded a heritage blue plaque in recognition of their local importance.

Gorvins managing partner and head of commercial property, Lorraine Lockie, handled the acquisition on behalf of Mondiale.
