Liverpool City Region is set to create an inward investment and place-marketing team, similar to Midas in Manchester, to provide “One Front Door” for potential investors.

One Front Door will see the creation of a team of five, to act as an investment focal point for the whole of Liverpool City Region. A business case and funding plan is being prepared, and recruitment is set to begin in the New Year. The team will be based in Mann Island, and an as yet-unnamed amount of money may be drawn from European Regional Development Fund, Local Enterprise Partnership and the Department for International Trade to support running costs.

The new staff will act as account managers, providing data on the area, supporting potential investors through the process and guiding them to other Combined Authority teams.

The brief includes helping potential investors understand the city region, providing information and supporting its member authorities, while commissioning the city region’s participation in trade fairs and events globally.

Rotheram said: “When I was elected, I promised to attract more investment and major business relocations through a single, properly resourced agency for the benefit of every borough, every community, every person in our city region.

“We know that, when we work together as six boroughs, we are significantly more attractive to investors. This concept is part of a more collaborative approach.

“This new agency will work with all of our partners to add co-ordination, capacity and expertise, to build on the existing good work, and ultimately benefit everyone in our city region, by helping to build a bigger and better economy that works for us all.”

Liverpool City Region said that the agency will work by co-ordinating existing resources, with services to be delivered by a small core team, overseen by a mixed, public-private investment board.

Isn’t this just another Liverpool Vision ? Please explain the difference.

By John Smith

Hopefully it will be like Liverpool Vision was before Anderson landed on the city. After ten years of nothing, it would be good to achieve something.

Is it too late now, though? Would modern international businesses eye Liverpool for a headquarters? Not so long ago, definitely yes. Momentum is ease to lose, far harder to build, and Liverpool’s progress up to 08 has been largely wasted.
