Bruntwood has been selected as property partner for the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a 10-year deal which will see the company provide planning, construction and design services.
Chris Oglesby, chief executive of Bruntwood, announced the partnership as part of a presentation to the Manchester delegation on the Wednesday morning at MIPIM.
Oglesby said that Bruntwood would advise the Trust on “how to shape the future of its estate according to clinical need.”
The Trust owns 4m sq ft of property on 70 acres and operates seven specialist hospitals: Manchester Royal Infirmary, Saint Mary’s Hospital, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, University Dental Hospital of Manchester, Trafford General and Altrincham Hospitals.
Bruntwood has previously worked in a joint venture partnership with the Trust on the development of Citylabs, a 100,000 sq ft biomedical centre on Oxford Road. Last week Bruntwood and architect Sheppard Robson revealed designs for a new hospital corridor bridge stretching across Grafton Street. The bridge will connect the Grafton Street car park, built by Bruntwood for the Trust, to the Manchester Royal Infirmary. The Trust has been allocated £1.1m towards a dedicated helicopter landing pad at Manchester Royal Infirmary in the Budget on 16 March.
Oglesby also updated delegates on the progress of various projects along the Oxford Road Corridor, which he said was targeting a culture of “proximity, density and collaboration”.
Schemes include the redevelopment of Manchester Business School for the University of Manchester, and the construction of two hotels totaling 326 bedrooms.
The development of the Staybridge and Citysuites hotels stalled in 2015 when contractor GB Building Solutions went into administration. However, Oglesby confirmed to Place North West that Bruntwood was back on site with the project, after creating its own contracting firm made up of staff taken on from GB.
