Miller plots 310,000 sq ft warehouse at Omega West

As work begins on the 830,000 sq ft Home Bargains distribution centre, Miller Developments has submitted a reserved matters application for a second industrial unit at the St Helens employment park.

Omega West is the newest addition to Omega Business Park, a project developed through a partnership between Homes England, Miller Developments and KUC Properties. In the past seven years, more than 6m sq ft of logistics developments have been built on the Omega Business Park.

Planning approval for the park and the Home Bargains warehouse was granted by the secretary of state in November last year. Infrastructure contractor D Morgan has begun ground preparation on the site. Bowmer + Kirkland is the main contractor.

The second proposed unit for Omega West is a warehouse clocking in at nearly 310,000 sq ft. The logistics facility would sit on around 20 acres of predominantly farmland and be accessed from Skyline Drive and Catalina Approach.

Within the building would be two floors of offices totalling 15,156 sq ft. The facility would also include a gatehouse for security purposes. The building will be designed to BREEAM Very Good standards according to Chetwoods Architects.

The reserved matters application for the site calls for 40 HGV parking spaces and 310 spaces for cars. There would also be 60 spaces for cycles and 20 for motorcycles.

McLaren has submitted a construction environmental management plan for the project, which lists a construction start date of September, with a completion date in August 2023.

WSP is the engineer for the project. Quod is the planning consultant.
