Middlewood Locks set for phase two consent
Salford City Council is expected to give the go-ahead to the construction of the next 546 homes at Scarborough Group’s Middlewood Locks, at its final planning committee of the year.
The McCabe family’s Scarborough Group is delivering the 24-acre development in a joint venture between Scarborough, Hualing Group, and Metro Holdings, a Singapore-listed property development and investment group. Construction is being undertaken by Beijing Construction & Engineering Group. The JV is called FairBriar International.
Scarborough received outline consent for Middlewood Locks from Salford City Council in March 2015, and detailed planning consent for the first phase of 571 homes and associated commercial space in December 2015.
The enabling works for the first phase started in April and residents are expected to start arriving in late 2018.
The proposals for this second phase are for four separate buildings of up to 10 storeys, designed by WCEC Architects, delivering 546 apartments.
In total, the £700m Middlewood Locks will deliver a mixed-use neighbourhood with 2,215 homes and 750,000 sq ft of commercial space including offices, hotel, shops, restaurants.
The site is arranged around three large basins of the Manchester, Bolton & Bury Canal in Salford.
Salford City Council’s planning committee is due to meet on Thursday 15 December, and planning officers have recommended Scarborough’s detailed application be approved.
