Metflex relocates in Great Harwood

The rubber moulding supplier has moved into a new 37,000 sq ft purpose built factory in Great Harwood, east Lancashire.

Metflex was previously based on Queen Street in Great Harwood before it sold the site to supermarket giant Tesco for an undisclosed sum.

The new factory is based on Heys Lane Industrial Estate in Great Harwood and has been built by Barnfield Construction.

Metflex bought an option to buy the land six years ago through the owners, Barnfield Construction, and exercised the right after selling its existing premises to Tesco.

John Holland, managing director at Metflex, said: "The move to new purpose built premises is a fantastic opportunity for the next phase in Metflex's history. While it is sad to leave the old site after so many years the buildings were getting old and did not facilitate modern manufacturing techniques. The new building is purpose built bringing all manufacturing under one roof and will be much more energy efficient therefore reducing the companies carbon footprint. Barnfield who have been working to a very tight schedule have done a fantastic job in completing the building within the allotted timescales."

The new factory follows on from the same design used on Barnfield Construction's speculative industrial development, Union Court, which is located on land next to the new Metflex premises.

Metflex moved to east Lancashire in 1944 after its London premises was bombed during the war.
