Merseytravel raises tunnel tolls

From 1 April, Mersey Tunnel tolls will be increased by 10p for the standard vehicle class.

The changes will only affect drivers paying in cash, and will not apply to Fast Tag users.

Fast Tag customers will also receive a discount on all journeys when making a monthly payment.

There is no upfront cost for the tag, which can be topped up by direct debit or by card payment as needed.

Cllr Liam Robinson, chairman of Merseytravel, said: "In the current economic climate any price increase is difficult. This is why we've tried to make it easier for people by not introducing the toll rise for Fast Tag users.

"I would urge anyone who makes regular journeys through the tunnels to get a Fast Tag and save themselves both time and money."

With effect from 00:01 hours Monday 1st April 2013 toll rates per journey through the Mersey Tunnels will be as follows:

  • Vehicle Toll Class 1: £1.60 (Fast Tag £1.30)
  • Vehicle Toll Class 2: £3.20 (Fast Tag £2.60)
  • Vehicle Toll Class 3: £4.80 (Fast Tag £3.90)
  • Vehicle Toll Class 4: £6.40 (Fast Tag £5.20)
