Merseyside Police HQ on course for 2021 completion

Willmott Dixon has started work on the 137,000 sq ft development on Scotland Road with the new home of Merseyside Police set to hand over in autumn 2021.

The development will provide space for up to 1,175 staff across a main four-storey building and a single-storey annex, alongside meeting rooms, a lecture theatre and break-out spaces.

A multi-storey car park was originally cited to be built at the site alongside the police headquarters, but this was scrapped in favour of surface car parking. Willmott Dixon has been attached to the project since 2016, having been chosen through Scape’s major works framework.

Designed by Ryder Architecture, the scheme was submitted to Liverpool City Council early last year for planning approval and was given consent later that year.

The eight-acre site, which borders Scotland Road, St Anne Street, and the approach road to the Kingsway Tunnel, was picked from a shortlist of five, which also included Pall Mall, Liverpool Waters, Wirral River Streets, and Knowsley Community College.

The project will see Merseyside Police relocate from its current Canning Place HQ, built in the 1970s, and the Police said the move would cost £780,000 cheaper than refurbishing the existing building, and would save the force £380,000 a year in running costs.

The Canning Place site will be sold once the police relocates to its new headquarters. The site of the new headquarters was largely owned by the Council, which approved a compulsory purchase order in March 2017 to buy up parcels of the site to allow the development to go ahead.

The old canning street site will be prime development land adjacent to liverpool and the near the arena when the police have moved out.
Let’s hope they come up with some well designed buildings that include office space

great news for the coppers and the robbers!

Its a great place that, we could do something great with it. Build some apartments but answer me this; how many will be affordable? We dont have much money in liverpool so come on do the right thing!!

no doubt the prime site adjacent to the glorious Albert Dock will be hawked off to a budget hotel or call centre operator. Would be nice to think that they could see it as a natural extension of the Liverpool One offer by adding in an affordable leisure use. Some imagination required please instead of favour to the usual friends.

Yes. …could the Dockside site not be incorporated into Liverpool 1 ?….perhaps a leisure facility like an ice rink ….which I believe has been mooted for this area…

Some decent apartments for people to live in NOT INVESTMENT so Liverpool people could buy them would be great.
