Joint venture partners Legal & General Investment Management and DB Symmetry have secured a 111,151 sq ft letting at M6 Epic 110, the recently completed distribution facility in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan.
MDA, which specialises in the design, procurement, storage and distribution of marketing materials for brands across Europe, has taken the unit on a 10-year lease. In addition, there is potential to expand the warehouse by a further 70,000 sq ft, totalling 180,000 sq ft.
The M6 Epic deal is the latest that the joint venture has completed in Wigan, having sold the neighbouring site for the development of a 335,275 sq ft facility for Poundland and secured a pre-let to Compagnie Fruitiere on a 61,233 sq ft unit in 2013.
The surrounding area is home to occupiers such as Heinz; Sports Direct; Siemens; Norbert Dentressangle; Milliken Carpets and Carlsberg.
Andrew Dickman, director at DB Symmetry, said: “Over the last four years, we have worked closely with Wigan Council to successfully deliver over 520,000 sq ft of commercial space in this area of Wigan. The letting to MDA is our latest success story and we are now working on further development opportunities to meet the demand from national occupiers who are attracted to Wigan’s strategic location in the North West and its excellent labour pool.”
Wayne Chapman, managing director for MDA, said: “We are thrilled to be opening our fifth base in Wigan. This is a major step forward for MDA and will help us drive forward our ambitions for the business to expand and grow while continuing to provide excellent service to all our clients. I would like to thank Wigan Council for their support in assisting our move into the borough. In our dealings with the council we have only encountered pro-activity, pragmatism and support.”
CBRE, B8 Real Estate and Moriarty & Co are joint agents for M6 Epic. MDA was unrepresented.
