MCR lets office space at Portland Street

MCR Property Group has let 8,820 sq ft at 9 Portland Street in central Manchester to Merlin Claims.

The claims management service joins Volker Rail in the newly refurbished building purchased by MCR in 2006.

Formerly known as Magnum House, 9 Portland Street was previously occupied by GMPTE before its relocation to Argent's Piccadilly Place.

Will Kennon, senior surveyor for office agency at CBRE North West, said: "Merlin is relocating from its existing premises on Deansgate and has identified 9 Portland Street as its preferred building. The building's strategic location adjacent to the city's public transport interchange at Piccadilly Gardens was seen as a major advantage to both clients and employees alike. The deal represents one of the largest lettings of refurbished office accommodation within the city in 2009.

"The building is proving popular due to its ability to cater for requirements ranging in size from 3,000 sq ft up to 12,000 sq ft on entire floors."

The deal was secured on a quoting rent of £18/sq ft. WHR are joint letting agents.

MCR Property Group completed the refurbishment of 55,000 sq ft at 9 Portland Street in March this year.
