McDonalds to open Trafford Centre drive-thru

McDonalds has submitted plans to build a drive-thru restaurant on Barton Dock Road, opposite the Holiday Inn Express on the approach to the Trafford Centre.

The company has put forward a two-storey drive-thru site on the junction of Mercury Way and Barton Dock Road, where Peel’s EventCity and TraffordCity offering is beginning to emerge.

The restaurant will be around 6,300 sq ft, with space for around 180 covers, and also features a children’s play area and car parking. The drive-thru will be served by a new access coming from Mercury Way.

According to documents put forward by consultant Planware, the development is expected to create around 65 jobs. The team on the project also includes AEW Architects.

If approved, the scheme will be the latest in a series of projects that has sought to rejuvenate the formerly-industrial approach to the Trafford Centre from the M60 and the A5081.

These include the Holiday Inn Express, completed by contractor Bowmer & Kirkland in 2017. This features 220 bedrooms and sits opposite the proposed McDonalds restaurant.

Williams Group is also delivering a £41m car showroom and retail centre for BMW, Mini, Land Rover and Jaguar on a 14-acre plot on Barton Dock Road. Caddick is currently on site here, and is due to hand over in the summer.
